Every generation has a group of trendsetters who define what it means to be “cool”.
In the 1950s, the Greasers slicked back their hair, wore leather jackets, and tuned up hot rods. In the 1960s, the Beatniks wore black turtlenecks, played bongo drums, and snapped their fingers at poetry readings. By the 2010s, the Hipsters took over, growing massive ironical beards, riding fixed-gear bicycles, and drinking expensive craft beer out of mason jars.
But fashion moves fast. Today, all of those subcultures are officially dead.
According to local trend-watchers, the hottest new subculture sweeping across Sicamous is The Outraged.
The Ultimate Fashion Statement: Pure, Unfiltered Fury
If you want to be trendy nowadays, you don’t need a leather jacket or an expensive coffee habit. You just need to be absolutely, wildly furious about something trivial at all hours of the day.
Just like the Hipsters before them, members of The Outraged have very specific community uniforms and rituals:
* The Gathering Grounds: Instead of smoky jazz clubs or trendy indie cafes, today’s cool kids gather on Facebook community groups and local buy-and-sell pages.
* The Accessories: Beatniks had bongos, but the Outraged have the ALL CAPS LOCK BUTTON and the angry-face emoji, which they deploy with lightning-fast speed.
* The Style: Walking around looking relaxed is a major fashion faux pas. To fit in with the local scene, you must look like you just witnessed someone put pineapple on a pizza while blocking a fire hydrant.
“I Was Angry Before It Was Mainstream”
Local hobbyists report that the best part of the trend is the sheer variety of things to be upset about.
“I used to collect vintage vinyl records to feel special,” says one anonymous local resident. “But now, I just find random things in the community to get offended by.”

Experts suggest that if you want to join the movement, you should start small. Try shaking your fist at someone making a driving error that you might also sometimes make, sigh loudly when someone takes three seconds too long at a check out, or write a passionate paragraph online about Tim Hortons.
After all, why be cool when you can be completely incandescent with rage?
