SICAMOUS, BC – Furious residents are packing council chambers this week after local officials claimed the thick, choking gray powder blanketing the community is absolutely not recreational dust from the controversial rail-trail, but rather a completely harmless layer of toxic forest fire ash

The district’s attempt to spin the sudden, sun-blotting debris as a sign of forest fire season and not “eco-tourism” has backfired spectacularly. Angry locals, already frustrated by the trail’s construction, are now dealing with buried cars, gray lawns, and a noon sky that looks like an apocalyptic wasteland.

“I went to council to complain that my entire deck is covered in trail dust, and they told me to stop being negative,” said one lifelong resident, gesturing angrily toward a gray cloud. “They claimed the trail is just beautiful, and that its not organic residue of active living showering down on our community. I don’t care how many cyclists are down there—bicycle tires do not create a localized, town-wide fallout zone that smells like burning pine”

Furious homeowners have openly rejected the district’s new official terminology, which encourages people to refer to the trail-like atmosphere as a “forest fire smoke.”

Protests Form at the Trailhead

Dozens of residents gathered near the trail entrance this morning, demanding an immediate halt to all recreational activity until the “dust” settles.

“The Mayor expects us to believe falling trail dust landing on my roof is because of a forest fire more then 30km away,” shouted the protest organizer through a megaphone. “This trail has brought nothing but headaches, and now they are using it to cover up the fact that the trails are literally blanketing our town. They want us to choke on tourism!”

Angry locals are currently preparing a class-action lawsuit for property damage. They note that if the district doesn’t stop defending the “outdoor synergy” falling at three centimeters per hour, the next town council meeting will be loud, angry, and heavily masked.
