Editorial Address: Election Announcement

With the official municipal nomination window closing at 4:00 PM today, the 2026 campaign season is officially upon us.

We’ve seen a lot of frantic chatter around the local Facebook groups about burner profiles, hidden agendas, and shadow governments. Because our platform is brand new, we want to make one thing completely clear: we did not create this site just to act as an election year pop-up or a campaign hit squad.

We are building a long-term local business here, and the truth is, we don’t need to cover the election to keep writing great local stories, so we simply aren’t going to. To ensure total neutrality, Sicamous Local News will not be covering the upcoming election campaign.

We aren’t here to tell you who to vote for, we aren’t here to host debates, and we certainly aren’t going to spend October arguing about signs along the highway. Instead, we invite you to head over to the District website this afternoon to read the raw candidate list yourself. Watch the candidates forums, stream the meetings on the District YouTube channel, and stay literate, Sicamous!

But do not confuse our current silence with a lack of long term ambition. You better believe that in four years’ time, when the 2030 municipal election rolls around, we will be ready. We are pacing ourselves for the long haul. Like true Dreamers and Visionaries we are planting trees so future generations can enjoy the shade and we fully intend to be sitting under them.

For the next few weeks, our field department ‘Legs’ will be closely watching the campaign trails, while we focus strictly on local events. The Mushroom Festival is September 18th – 20th and we will probably wonder down to the Red Barn to check that out. If you see us ask for a sticker!

Legs also just completed a double-shift of municipal oversight at the latest town hall session, tracking everything from Bruhn Bridge collapse risk, to the highly technical science of ditch drainage. Our recurring feature article “From the Chambers” is up on the site right now.
